The Code of Practice 2014 defines SEN as:

 

“A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.”

The four broad areas of need are:

 

  • Communication and interaction e.g.: autistic spectrum and language disorders.

 

 

  • Social, mental and emotional health - e.g.: ADHD, ADD, attachment disorders, emotional difficulties, mental health difficulties.

 

  • Sensory/physical – e.g.: hearing or visual impairment.
