Our Y5s have been learning about bike safety this week. Thank you to the staff at @BikeabilityUK for braving the rain, hail and sun to take the children out.
Y2 Scented Garden Day
Our green-fingered Y2s got their spades and rakes out on Wednesday as part of their ‘Scented Garden’ topic. We visited Greno Green to map the different features of this garden then we enjoyed creating our own garden to care for in our school plot. We hope you like it-it was hard but rewarding work.

Remembrance at Grenoside 2018
This year marks the centenary of the ending of World War 1 and we wanted to mark this in a special way. Every pupil in school has made a poppy to remember the people who played their part in World War 1 and World War 2 and subsequent wars. One of our banners will be presented to The Reading Room where it will be displayed from Sunday 11th November. This banner will have 51 of our poppies on it to represent the 51 from Grenoside who lost their lives in World War 1. This poppy banner which will stay in school shows one large poppy made out of our smaller poppies. As well, some of our children were also inspried to look, through their home learning, at their own family history and what part their relatives played in the wars.
Inspired Through Sport.
On Monday 25th June Swimmer Cameron Brooks - Clarke came in to school to work with all the children. Cameron is from Sheffield and is specialising in 50m and 100m Butterfly in the hope of making the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The children took part in a sponsored fitness circuit followed by a question and answer session.
Pirates of Penzance
Grenoside Community Primary School drama club proudly presents... Pirates of Penzance at Grenoside Community Centre on Thursday 24th November The children in the Y5/6 drama club pulled off another stunning show this year when they went and proved that they can even do operetta. They kept the audience at the community centre entertained by their extraordinary performances as not-so-bloodthirsty pirates, giggly daughters , cowardly policemen, a foolish nurse and the very model of a modern Major-General! The cast had to master some tricky choreography and complex melodies but sang, danced and acted their hearts out. Parents were queueing up to express their astonishment on the way out at how skilfully the children had handled such a difficult piece of drama, and just how much talent we have here at Grenoside. Having laughed and cheered through an hour and a half of fantastic theatre, we have to agree!
Fun was had by all when the Y3 and 4 children impressed family members with their knowledge of a wide range of scientific processes and concepts. Their skills were evident in confident presentations and explanations of investigations.
Ewden Water Treatment Works Visit
The Y3 and Y4 children were lucky enough to spend a whole day at this working water treatment plant. They learnt all about the science behind the water cycle, how important careful use of water is and the processes involved in getting clean water to our homes. Many of them were surprised to learn about what some children have to go through just to get their daily water when we compared our community with that of a village in Ethiopia.
Y3P and Y3/4G enjoyed working with members of the local community (Friends of Grenoside Green) finding out about herbs and wild flowers and helping to keep the Green tidy by picking up litter.
