Welcome to Year 3 / 4

The class teachers are:

Mr Greenwood, Mrs Monach, Mrs Pollard and Mrs Wilkinson

We are also supported by:

Mrs Shaw, Mrs Parker and Miss Swann

We are looking forward to getting to know you and hope you will enjoy and make the most of your time
 in Year 3 or 4.

Families - if you have anything you would like to speak to us about, we will usually be available at the
end of the day, in the playground, either for a brief discussion or to make an appointment to speak at another time.

Educational visits

We have planned a variety of visits, including professionals coming into school, to enhance our curriculum. These do incur a cost (we anticipate that to be around £30 for this year), however, if we are unable to collect enough funds to support them, the events will have to be cancelled.

Homework days…

Every Monday, your child will receive a set of spellings to learn. Knowledge of spellings will usually be tested on Friday. Times tables and the accompanying division facts are an important cornerstone of maths work too, so your child will be asked to continue to learn these. This year, the children will be given a homework planner at the start of each half term. They will need to complete the homework for each week to hand in on THURSDAYS (this will automatically earn each child a housepoint), if it is not completed, your child/ren will be expected to stay in on Friday lunchtime to finish it.

PE days…

Y4M – Thursday and Friday               Y3/4DG – Wednesday and Thursday

Y3P – Tuesday and Thursday

Although, please be advised that we recommend children should have their PE kits with them every day for all eventualities. P.E. kits include a white T-shirt, navy shorts and trainers (children will usually have bare feet in the hall). Navy jogging bottoms can be worn for outdoor sessions in winter. Please do not allow your child/ren to wear any jewellery on PE days.

Home reading…

In Year 3 and Year 4, we strongly believe in the importance of regular reading at home, as a child’s ability to read impacts on all areas of learning. Encourage your child to read on a daily basis for a short time. This can be their school reading or library book or reading matter of your child’s choice, including magazines. In fact, the greater the range of reading materials, the better! Please sign their reading record each time you hear them read (or have observed them reading) and for every five signatures, your child will receive a stamp or sticker on the reading chart. Your child can earn certificates and even prizes for achieving bronze, silver and gold awards.

At school, reading forms an integral part of most lessons. Children will read aloud to their class teacher as part of a reading session in class. When possible, children will also have the opportunity to read to other adults individually. If you would be willing to listen to children read or could volunteer in any other way, please contact us.
